Why do I get text messages multiple times?

I have Cricket and I am using the Huawei Ascend (yes I know service sucks and the phone isn't the best). I get multiple copies of the same message about 95% of the time. Is there a way to fix this? Does anyone know what causes this? It gets really annoying! What is even more annoying is that I don't know what causes it. This never happened with my little samsung phone.
