Scarlet macaw picking its feathers out?

Hi i have a scarlet macaw she is maybe 12 years old, we're not completely sure because we got her from some man a few months ago but anyways she has been picking an picking out her feathers and i am really worried and i don't know what to do or even if it is supposed happen?? Please help
