Parents, from what you read on here, see in everyday life, or read in the newspaper?

sometimes we don't see things all that clear when we ourselves have been hurt. you are correct that you can't force someone to be a parent. but that is how it is even in a marriage. some people just don't make good parents, but it's not up to us to say who is good and who isn't.
