I need some serious help with a guy...?

Okay, I was with this AWESOME guy and we broke up because I was really shy around him and we didnt really do anything. And I still like him A LOT. And I want to get back with him. I'm not uncomfortable around him anymore and he hugs me a lot. But he also hugs A LOT of other girls. But not exactly how he hugs me. When he hugs me he just stands there holding me. But I'm not used to that so I pull away after about 20 secounds... Do guys think that's offensive? Because I want to ask him to get back with me and I want to make sure I don't make any mistakes again and I want to be with him for at least a month. Any advice on how to make him like me for that long? And I need advice on how to ask him out again... ;__; I've never asked anyone out before so I don't know what to say because I dont want it to be awkward. And I dont even know if he still llikes me. And I want to ask him if he still does...I just don't know the right thing to say without being too straightforward, Any tips will be very helpful. But please take this literally. I'm not kidding.
